This presentation portrays a general overview of the theory of abiogenesis and its conceptual history. From the theory of spontaneous generation to biogenesis to the modern-day abiogenesis, the changing perception of the origin of life is discussed. In addition to many historical figures, such as Louis Pasteur and Charles Darwin, the talk also delineates the famous Miller-Urey “primordial soup” experiment. Recent discoveries regarding the origin of life is also briefly summarized.
